About Life Beads Kenya
Life Beads Kenya is a charitable organization based in Naivasha, Kenya. Founded by Dr Peter & Minalyn Nicklin, the workshop provides skills, opportunities and a livelihood for local women, disabled people and street children.
The Life Beads Kenya project started in 2005 and over recent years has grown to support approximately 15 regular trainees. Minalyn has taught each trainee a variety of skills, from beading to bag making, jewelry through to leather working. Other members of our team look after the workshop & grounds, maintenance of our vehicles and keep a fresh supply of food and chai (tea) for everyone.
Every day (including weekends) our team of ambitious trainees hand makes baskets, bags, jewelry and craft items for sale at local markets, trade shows and through our onsite shop.
Peter is a local Doctor (Daktari) who runs the onsite medical practice, supporting the local community offering free or discounted treatment and medication to those who need it most. Born in Zanzibar, Peter qualified in London and has since dedicated his life to helping the local community through medical practice.
Minalyn runs the workshop and is very active in the local community, supporting local orphanages, schools, hospitals and running a training program in the local women's prison.
The work of Life Beads Children helps not only those who work with us, but the wider community through collaboration.
We really hope you like what we're able to make for you.
About this Website
The Life Beads Kenya website has been developed by Ken McCallum, a charity cyclist who is currently cycling from Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt, to Cape Town in South Africa - all as part of the Better Life Cycle project. Design assistance has been gratefully received from Maria Nicklin.
Ken volunteered with us for a few months, setting up this website in the process allowing us to sell to a wider audience.
Over time we hope this website will grow; more products, more detailed information and, most importantly, more sales.
If you have any ideas on how you'd like to enhance this website, please feel free to let us, or (preferably!) Ken, know. We welcome all ideas and thoughts, good or bad!
